Condition (used):  generally good for age in good/fair box (see below) - very nearly complete - missing the rule sheet for the short version otherwise seems to be complete - this edition contains the following elements: board containing 2 separate folding paper tracks, 2 cardboard placemats, 2 dice, 6 owners club memberships cards, 12 printed card horses with wooden bases, 14 veterinary surgeon's report cards, 20 lease cards, 20 disadvantage cards, 36 trainer's report cards (18 red 18 blue), 48 betting slips, 20 black advantage cards, 20 red, 20 blue, 20 yellow, 1 partially used totaliser sheet pad, a good selection of uncounted money, 1 rule sheet for the full game - the box has some minor corner/edge wear and general light grubbiness and marks including a small patch of damage to one of the box sides, the playing surfaces of the board are good with minor marks but the board has a 14cm split to the spine and the backing card has some edge/corner wear and general grubbiness and marks including what look like grubby foot prints, the totaliser pad has some loose sheets and has very minor tanning, the instruction sheet has a fold, light creasing and some moderate tanning, the cardboard placemats are a little marked, some of the horses although generally very good have have stood slightly proud of their niches and as a consequence all have slightly bowed jockey's heads, otherwise the contents are good with very minor marks commensurate with age and use.

Identifying marks or labels etc:  "The Great Race Game Totopoly" on box and "Manufactured by  John Waddington Limited Patent No 505365" on instructions.

Other information:  fantastic vintage game, this set would appear to come from the 1949 - 1958 period, the horses are unique from other versions in that they are of printed cardboard on wooden bases. These are sometimes called austerity sets (the use of cardboard horses was because of metal shortages following the Second World War). The box and board with turning card pages are similar to the standard pre-war edition except that they are covered in black paper, and the box is a little squarer in shape - may be of some interest to a collector.

Approximate dimensions:    23cm (box length) 17.5cm (box width).

Approximate weight:  1240g.

Price £28.
