Anthea Stilwell Gallery

Anthea Stilwell studied at the Ruskin School of Drawing at Oxford. She continued her studies at Robin Child's Art Research Centre. She taught Art at Harrow School for twenty five years. She retired to and continues to work in the Welsh Marches, Herefordshire where the stunning landscape is a powerful motivation. She concentrates in particular on painting but works in a wide range of media. Also varied is her subject matter and although her work is wide-ranging, her main interest is in the life study: "I love drawing and painting the nude, first from observation and then using the drawings to create larger, more imaginative, expressive and sometimes semi-abstract versions. I use the beautiful and dramatic Herefordshire landscape in the same way; always starting with charcoal, pencil or pen and ink and working up to watercolour, acrylic or oil paint. In these drawings and paintings, I have concentrated on the energy of line." Anthea Stilwell is one of Just Four Contemporary Artists.

Exhibitions include The Lennox Gallery, Fulham; The Mill, Faringdon; Harrow School; The Gayton Library, Harrow; The Presteigne Annual Art Exhibition; The Galanthus Gallery, Abergavenny; The Parkfield Gallery; The River Cafe, Glasbury-on-Wye; Ross on Wye; The Open Studios in H Art week; Ludlow Assembly Rooms; The Bleddfa Trust & Justfour Contemporary Artists; Artist in Residence at Dore Abbey Music festival; Discoed Church Lent "Stations of the Cross"and "The Last Supper" exhibition and many other local exhibitions.
